Honolulu Mayor Kirk Caldwell released details about his Fiscal Year 2014 budget today, revealing plans to increase the fuel tax by $0.05 per gallon.
The tax hike is part of Caldwell’s $2.09 billion spending plan that aims to restore bus services cut by previous Mayor Peter Carlisle and dump $153 million into repaving and preserving Honolulu’s roads.
Caldwell also wants to spend $17.7 million improving Oahu’s parks. The mayor has scheduled a press conference at 2:30 p.m. to discuss his budget.
