Hawaii Department of Education and Hawaii State Teachers Association have released a joint statement regarding contract negotiations. The DOE sent the statement. It reads:

On Monday, March 4, the Hawaii State Department of Education (DOE) received a written request from the Hawaii State Teachers Association (HSTA) to engage in mediation to assist the parties in reaching an agreement regarding the teachers’ contract. The DOE, together with the Governor and Hawaii State Board of Education representatives, agreed and responded affirmatively to HSTA.

The next step is for the Hawaii Labor Relations Board (HLRB) to approve the mediation, as required by law. The parties have requested approval from HLRB.
