Lambs, sheep and dogs — big and small — made a visit to downtown Honolulu this morning as part of “UH Day at the State Capitol.

The event marked the third day of Education Week at the Hawaii Legislature.

Why animals? This year’s theme is “Healthy People, Healthy Pets.”

Various University of Hawaii programs and campuses set up booths throughout the Capitol rotunda. Among the exhibits were blood pressure screening tables, a physical rehabilitation station and a table demonstrating the John A. Burns School of Medicine’s new Native Hawaiian Health degree.

Members of Windward Community College’s veterinary program were stationed at a corner offering free check-ups for dogs. Even Sen. Clayton Hee had his dog — an Australian Shepard pup — at his side.
