Tuition for state residents in 2006 was about $4,500. In 2012 it was roughly $9,400, or 108 percent more than the 2006 rate.
The University of Arizona got first place, increasing from $4,800 to $10,000 between 2006 and 2012.
The WSJ reports that the cost of attending public colleges is rising faster than the cost of private colleges, reflecting reductions in state funding.
