By the time Honolulu Mayor Kirk Caldwell and other officials met with Rep. Colleen Hanabusa this morning, reports had already come out about her deciding to run against Sen. Brian Schatz.

She hadn’t formally announced it though.

Apparently Caldwell and the others refrained from asking her about it. “Strictly about rail,” he said about the meeting afterwards.

He also declined to comment about a possible Hanabusa run because she hadn’t made a formal announcement. He called it “speculation at this point.”
