From a press release Thursday (April 4):

The United States Energy Security Council (USESC) today named former Hawaii Governor Linda Lingle as its new member. …

The Council is focused on reducing the strategic importance of oil by breaking its virtual monopoly over transportation fuel. The Council works to ensure that new cars sold in the U.S. and throughout the world are open to fuel competition.

“Hawaii’s gasoline prices are the highest in the nation, and in no state are consumers more vulnerable to oil price spikes and supply disruptions,” said Governor Lingle. “I’m honored to join a group of national leaders in an effort to bring about consumer choice in fuels that will stabilize prices and increase our state and nation’s energy security.”
