Students in the University of Hawaii at Manoa‘s Academy for Creative Media will be screening their films next Friday and Saturday in the hopes of snagging some recognition at the academy’s awards ceremony May 3

The screening marathon will include narratives, documentaries, experimentals and animations. The event starts at 6 p.m. on both days and will be held in the Art Auditorium

UHM students and the public are encouraged to attend and decide which student filmmaker will take home the Audience Award.

On Friday, May 3, the ACM Awards Ceremony will be held in the Art Auditorium on the UH Mānoa campus at 6:00 p.m. Awards will be presented in the following categories: 

Best Drama

Best Comedy

Best Documentary

Best Experimental

Best Animation

Best Directing

Best Cinematography

Best Editing

Best Sound

Best Production Design

In addition, Maka Maoli Native Vision Indigenous Film Award, the Abernethy Screenwriting Awards, the Scholar Award, the Grace Award, the Imagine Award, the ACM Audience Award, and other special awards will be presented at the ACM Awards ceremony as well.

Local business and community leaders Roy and Hilda Takeyama will be honored with the ACM FRIEND AWARD at the ACM Awards Ceremony, for their continuous support and contributions in promoting ACM student films and nurturing ACM filmmakers throughout the years. Roy Takeyama was UH Regent chair of the board and served as deputy state attorney general.
