From the Hawaii Tribune-Herald:

Roughly a mile southwest of Waimea is a single runway airport without an air traffic control tower. The only commercial airline operating there is Pacific Wings, which offers interisland flights, said Caroline Sluyter, spokeswoman for the state Department of Transportation.

DOT is seeking comments from residents about what kind of airport and aviation services they would like at Waimea-Kohala Airport. The informal discussion began when DOT Hawaii District Airports Manager Chauncey Wong Yuen was invited to give a presentation about the airport in February at the Waimea Community Association’s monthly meeting.

He gave a brief history of the facility, recalled working there during the 1970s, spoke about recent improvements and solicited feedback via a survey, Sluyter said. Read the full story.
