Kamehameha Schools has cancelled plans to build a new shopping center at a 4.5 acre parcel along the Kalanianaole Highway in Hawaii Kai.

The decision was supported by Honolulu City Councilman Stanley Chang, who said he had received several comments from concerned citizens after Kamehameha Schools announced its intentions for the project.

According to a press release from Chang, Kamehameha Schools will suspend its Kuapa property project and direct resources elsewhere.

The Kuapa shopping center plan included a Foodland grocery store, playground and bike paths.
