Lahaina News reports that 12 local public schools and the Hawaii State Science Olympiad have received more than $12,000 in grants from the Monsanto Hawaii Science Education Fund.

Recipients include Iao Intermediate, Kihei Charter School, Lahainaluna High, Maui High, Molokai High, Campbell High, Kapolei Middle, Leilehua High, McKinley High, Moanalua High, Nanakuli High & Intermediate and Waialua High & Intermediate.

The grants, supported by the Monsanto Fund, are going toward various programs, including robotics, renewable energy projects and equipment and other science class supplies, according to the article.

The grants are awarded twice annually. The next application is due Oct. 6, 2013.
