Speaking at a Senate Veterans Affairs committee hearing today, Sen. Brian Schatz said the nation owes Filipino World War II veterans and their beneficiaries full U.S. military benefits.

Schatz, who has introduced a bill to grant the benefits, said also the measure’s passage would send a “clear message to all veterans that Americans will not forget their service when they return from combat.”

Rep. Colleen Hanabusa, who’s running for Schatz’s seat, has introduced similar legislation in the House.
