The prosecution just wrapped up opening statements in the murder trial of federal agent Christopher Deedy.

Deputy Prosecutor Janice Futa described Deedy as being extremely drunk when he shot and killed 23-year-old Kollin Elderts in a Waikiki McDonald’s in 2011.

Deedy was here as a part of a U.S. State Department security detail for the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit.

On the night of the shooting Deedy had been out drinking with friends at several bars in Chinatown and Waikiki.

Futa also told the jury that Deedy’s federal law enforcement training specifically says he should not be carrying a gun while drinking.
