Forecasters at the Central Pacific Hurricane Center issued a tropical storm warning for Oahu Sunday and a tropical storm watch for Kauai as Tropical Storm Flossie closes in on Hawaii. Big Island and Maui County remain under a tropical storm warning.

A statewide flash flood watch is also set to begin at 6 a.m. Monday.

Mike Cantin with the Central Pacific Hurricane Center said the Big Island and Maui is forecast to feel effects of the storm between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. Monday.  The rest of Maui County, Oahu and Kauai could possibly see effects of the storm from Monday 6 p.m. through Tuesday 5 a.m.

“We don’t expect it to become less than a tropical storm until it is west of the state,” said Cantin. …

Meanwhile, the Hawaii Tourism Authority has advised the following:

We ask that all visitors and residents adhere to all warnings and alerts issued by the National Weather Service, Civil Defense and the counties.

Some airlines have begun announcing flight adjustments. Visitors should contact their airlines and hotels to confirm their travel plans.
