Forecasters at the Central Pacific Hurricane Center says Tropical Storm Flossie is weakening as it approaches the state.

RA tropical storm warning was issued Sunday for Oahu and for Kauai on Monday as Tropical Storm Flossie closes in on Hawaii. Big Island and Maui County remain under a tropical storm warning.

A statewide flash flood watch also began at 6 a.m. Monday.

Mike Cantin with the Central Pacific Hurricane Center said the Big Island and Maui is forecast to feel effects of the storm between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. Monday.  The rest of Maui County, Oahu and Kauai could possibly see effects of the storm from Monday 6 p.m. through Tuesday 5 a.m.

“We don’t expect it to become less than a tropical storm until it is west of the state,” said Cantin.
