Former Hawaii state Rep. Ernest “Juggie” Heen died late Sunday (June 30) at the Tripler Army Medical Center’s Center for Aging. He was 82.

Services at Oahu Cemetery are pending.

Heen’s friend Scott Foster said in a press release,  ”An admitted ‘rascal,’ Juggie was a walking encyclopedia of Hawaii and Hawaiian history and politics (he witnessed the Pearl Harbor attack and the explosion of the USS Arizona firsthand) and was an intimate of Governor John Burns and his vast political hui) and later Tom Gill and his wife Lois, and sons Eric and Tony. …

He was an intimate friend with many of the legends of Hawaiian music during the ‘Golden Mile’ era of Waikiki (Kui Lee, Don Ho . … ) and was fluent in the traditional Hawaiian language and Pidgin. …”

Heen’s survivors include his brother Walter Heen, the former circuit and appeals court judge.
