Hawaiian Electric Co. has released its new five year energy plans for all the islands except for Kauai, which is operated by the Kauai Island Utility Cooperative.
The utilities for Oahu, the Big Island and Maui County have an aggressive plan to decommission oil-powered generating units, install smart grid technology, adopt a diverse array of renewable energy and switch to liquefied natural gas.
