The appropriations bill, which covers the departments of Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education, has $14 million in funding for Native Hawaiian Health Care Systems. It also has $34 million to fund innovative education programs for Native Hawaiians, including early education and literacy programs.
Schatz said he’s been working with Appropriations Committee Chair Barbara Mikulski, D-Md., and Subcommittee Chair Tom Harkin, D-Iowa, to get the funding into the bill. The measure, though, still needs to pass the House.
