The University of Hawaii’s Board of Regents has appointed UH Vice President for Information Technology David Lassner as the university’s interim president.

His annual salary would be $325,008 — the same salary paid to Interim President David McClain when he was appointed in 2004, according to a press release. 

Lassner, who also serves as the university’s chief information officer, has worked at UH in various capacities since 1977. New Board Chair John Holzman said in a statement that he’s confident Lassner will help move the university’s agenda forward. 

Regents will vote on the appointment at a special board meeting on July 30. If approved, Lassner will start his post September 1 and will remain there until the board selects a permanent president. 

Holzman said the board decided unanimously to announce the appointment before the vote so that the public can provide comment.
