The U.S. state department may act global, but it’s thinking local.

This week it’s sending a kamaaina — Renee Lee — to Honolulu to recruit locals for diplomatic positions at American embassies and consulates around the world.

Her speaking event is happening at Hawaii Pacific University and is part of the state department’s “Hometown Diplomats” program.

According to a press release, Lee is a presidential management fellow assigned to the department’s Office of Strategic Planning in the public affairs bureau.

She’s worked throughout the Asia-Pacific region, including South Korea, Australia and Thailand.
