CNN has an interview with John Sangmeister, owner and crew member on the sailing yacht Lending Club that recently won the 2013 Transpac. That’s a 2,225-mile race from San Pedro, Calif., ending at the Diamond Head Lighhouse off Waikiki.

Lending Club won the race, finishing about 10 p.m. July 18 in just under six days.

But first … the crew had to do serious damage control after running at relatively high speed into a large patch of floating debris that is thought to have come from the March 2011 Japanese earthquake and tsunami. And in a trimaran no less. Yikes.

Great interview and great pictures taken by crew member Will Oxley here.
