Pua Aiu, SHPD’s former administrator, resigned last month following a critical report by the National Park Service, which placed the division on federal high-risk status more than two years ago due to ongoing operational problems. (Aiu has since been assigned to DLNR Chair William Aila’s office where she is working on the archaeological review of the rail project.)
A screening committee consisting of DLNR Chairperson William J. Aila, Jr., DLNR First Deputy Esther Kiaaina, Bruce Coppa, Governor’s Chief of Staff, OHA Chief Executive Officer Kamanaopono Crabbe, and UH Anthropology and Ethnic Studies professor Ty Kawika Tengan, has been established to review applications and interview candidates.
