Rep. Tulsi Gabbard had her first bill enacted today. President Barack Obama signed a measure into law that makes it easier for wounded and disabled veterans to get through airport security with dignity.

The law expedites screening and requires training for Transportation Security Administration workers about proper procedure. Gabbard said she proposed the bill after hearing stories of veterans having to remove clothing and prosthetics in view of other passengers or being forced to go through screening machines without the aid of a prosthetic leg or limb.

“Enactment of this bill ensures that our brave servicemen and women are able to return to life back home as quickly and seamlessly as possible,” said Gabbard, who introduced the bill as her first piece of legislation in March. “Having fought for this country, this trusted group of individuals has more than earned the right to go through security screening processes that are dignified, and that respect their service and sacrifices,” she said in a statement.
