Forecasters at the Central Pacific Hurricane Center in Honolulu said early Tuesday that Gil is continuing west as a tropical storm, while forecasters at the National Hurricane Center in Miami said that Tropical Storm Henriette is strengthening as a hurricane.

In its 5 a.m. Tuesday advisory, the Central Pacific Hurricane Center said Tropical Storm Gil was located about 985 miles east-southeast of Hilo and 1,195 miles east-southeast of Honolulu, moving west at 9 miles per hour. Forecasters said this general motion should continue through Thursday morning. …

Also at 5 a.m. Tuesday, the National Hurricane Center said Hurricane Henriette was located about 1,605 miles east of Hilo, moving northwest at 10 miles per hour. Forecasters said a motion between west-northwest and northwest is expected over the next couple of days. …

“Gil is forecast to pass far enough south of Hawaii this weekend to have little effect on our weather in the way of elevated surf, some added showers and slightly stronger trade winds,” said KITV4 chief meteorologist Justin Fujioka.

Fujioka said it’s still way too early to tell if or how Henriette may impact conditions in the islands, but if we do see any effects, they should be in our neighborhood late in the weekend into early next week. …
