Attorney General David Louie formally announced today that the state is charging former August Ahrens Elementary School Principal Florentina Smith with two counts of tampering with a government record.

The complaint, which was filed in late July, alleges that Smith knowingly falsified written government records on two days in November 2011 while serving as principal. She was later suspended.

Tampering with a government record is a misdemeanor offense punishable by up to a year in jail and/or a $2,000 fine, according to an AG press release.

Smith is set to appear in court next Monday, Sept. 9.
