The U.S. Department of Transportation today (Thursday, Sept. 19) awarded $236 million for Honolulu’s rail project.
Both the Senate and House approved the funding, which is allocated for under Fiscal Year 2013, in March.
“Today’s rail funding announcement demonstrates the federal government’s ongoing commitment to Honolulu’s rail project,” U.S. Sen. Mazie Hirono said in a press release. “This project is already creating jobs and, when completed, will provide transportation options and major traffic relief. …”
Said Sen. Brian Schatz in a press release: “After 40 years in the making, the rail project is now quickly progressing and I will continue to work towards making a rail system in Hawai‘i a reality.”
