Hawaii Human Trafficking Advocate Running for Congress

Kathryn Xian, perhaps best known for her work to stop human trafficking, will announce her campaign for Hawaii’s 1st Congressional District seat on Sept. 30.

Xian, executive director of the Pacific Alliance to Stop Slavery, will run on a platform “that speaks to Hawaii’s diverse interests, including economic innovation, educational achievement, energy independence, social equity, and civil rights,” according to a press release Monday (Sept. 30).

Xian, 40, works with Girl Fest Hawaii. She has been publisher of Hawaii Women’s Journal, director of communications for the Legal Aid Society of Hawaii and special assistant to the director of economic development for the City & County of Honolulu. 

Four other Democrats — Will Espero, Mark Takai, Stanley Chang and Ikaika Anderson — are already in the race.
