State Senate President Donna Mercado Kim is considering a run for Congress, according to a Hawaii News Now report.

With three decades of experience in elected office, both in the Legislature and Honolulu City Council, she’d arguably be the frontrunner in the 1st Congressional District race. (U.S. Rep. Colleen Hanabusa is vacating the seat to run for Senate.)

At this point, Kim would be up against state Sen. Will Espero, state Rep. Mark Takai and Honolulu City Council members Stanley Chang and Ikaika Anderson. Activist Kathryn Xian will also formally enter the race Monday.
