Kauai Anti-GMO March Set For Sunday

It’s being hailed as the “Mana March” and organizers of the anti-GMO, pro-Bill 2491 march say they are expecting thousands to show up this Sunday (Sept. 8). 

Bill 2491, which will have a hearing on Monday, requires biotech companies operating on Kauai to disclose what pesticides they are spraying, where and in what quantities. The bill also requires buffer zones between GMO fields and public facilities, such as schools, parks, roads and waterways. 

The measure is being vigorously opposed by the biotech companies operating on Kauai. 

Here are the details: 

The event will begin with a pule at 11:30 a.m. Marchers will walk down Hoolako Street, turning right on Rice Street, continuing to the Historic Kauai County Building. A rally, including music by Makana, John Cruz, Kepa Kruse and Shilo Pa will follow from 2 to 6 p.m. on the County Building lawn.
