U.S. Sen. Brian Schatz‘s re-election campaign is hoping to capitalize off the faux filibuster in the Senate from a Texas Republican. Schatz sent an email to supporters Wednesday (Sept. 25) that states in part:

They’ve really done it this time: Ted Cruz spent all night grandstanding on the Senate floor in an effort to abolish President Obama‘s landmark healthcare legislation. He recklessly wasted valuable time holding up real debate and votes on the budget, bringing us even closer to a potential government shutdown. …

We need to show Ted Cruz and his allies that strong progressives like you and me are willing to fight for better health care for middle-class families.

Schatz then asks for a campaign contribution. It’s par for the course this time of year, with the next quarterly report on campaign fundraising due next month. Schatz’s Democratic primary opponent, U.S. Rep. Colleen Hanabusa, is also seeking donations. In an email to supporters yesterday, she said:

These Tea Party-led antics are absurd and reckless. Even after 42 votes, Republicans haven’t been able to repeal the Affordable Care Act, so they’ve turned to a radical scheme that puts our economy at risk.
