The Hawaii Board of Education gave district Superintendent Kathryn Matayoshi the top rating of “exceptional” in her annual job performance evaluation, according to an official Department of Education press release.
That’s two marks higher than the “fully meets expectations” rating Matayoshi received last year.
Matayoshi was appointed superintendent in September 2010 and has overseen the implementation of the department and board’s joint updated Strategic Plan, which sets goals for seven years starting in 2011. Her contract term is set to expire next June.
The DOE press release outlines some of the milestones accomplished under Matayoshi, including:
- Ratification of a new, four-year teachers contract with the Hawaii State Teachers Association
- USDOE approval of the department’s new school performance and improvement system, which replaced No Child Left Behind
- Removal from “high-risk” status for the state’s $75 million Race to the Top Grant
