With the federal government shutdown now in its third week, Gov. Neil Abercrombie will leave for Washington, D.C., today to meet with Hawaii’s congressional delegation and former colleagues on the Hill. The concern is continuation of federally funded services and programs.

Abercrombie has spoken with each of the four county mayors regarding concerns about funding and employee positions.

“The intention is to form a coordinated effort by county, state and federal levels of government to address the issues as they arise,” according to a press release from the Abercrombie administration.

The governor’s trip is an addition to personal travel to the East Coast that had been previously arranged. Lt. Gov. Shan Tsutsui will be acting governor until Abercrombie returns Oct. 20.

Abercrombie recently completed a vacation in France. Read Civil Beat’s story on how difficult it is to obtain information about his official travels.
