The Hawaii Legislature opened its special session Monday to consider a bill to legalize gay marriage.

Thousands of people rallied in the Capitol Rotunda before and during the all-day hearing. Hundreds of people testified on the legislation before the Senate Judiciary and Labor Committee.

Ten hours after the session officially started at 10 a.m., people were still lined up to speak on Senate Bill 1.
