The state is piloting a free laptop lending program that’s already available at three public libraries in Oahu.
The netbooks, which can be checked out by any library cardholder for three weeks at a time, are equipped with broadband capacities and don’t need to have access to WiFi to connect to the internet. The state purchased the equipment with a Library Services and Technology Act grant.
The program hopes to connect those with limited resources to the Internet and support kids in school. The state is working on plans to implement the program at 36 libraries in late November.
