“It’s time, Hawaii,” they shouted in unison.
House Rep. Chris Lee, a Democrat, told the rally, “We are near the finish line.”
Another Democrat, Sen. Roz Baker, said the Senate would “do the right thing” and pass same-sex marriage. She said she had “confidence” the House would do the same.
Choking up at times, Baker said she had been shocked at the content of some messages to her office from opponents of gay marriage.
“They claim to be Christian, but they are not pono, not right,” she said to enormous cheers. “There is no place in Hawaii for this.”
