The Hawaii Senate Water and Land Committee will convene this afternoon to consider several gubernatorial appointments, including that of Shawn Smith, who will be considered for the Board of Land and Natural Resources.
Smith’s nomination has drawn fire because he is general manager of the Kauai real estate company Falko Partners. The concern is that the appointment sends the wrong message about land use in Hawaii.
