Students from various elementary schools in the Windward area met navigators of the Hokulea yesterday at Heeia Pier in a rare opportunity that aimed to inspire the keiki and build a greater understanding of Native Hawaiian values. 

The Hokulea will be voyaging for the next four years around the world using traditional star navigation techniques. The navigators taught students about the use of stars to chart their way, data collection and survival on the canoe.
