The woman who has been called “Hawaii’s third representative” today endorsed the man who hopes to be Hawaii’s second.

U.S. Rep. Tammy Duckworth (D-Ill.) has given her support to state Rep. Mark Takai, who is seeking Rep. Colleen Hanabusa‘s 1st District seat. The announcement came at Keehi Lagoon Memorial Park.

Duckworth, a McKinely High School graduate who served with Takai in UH Manoa’s student government body, praised Takai’s “burning desire to serve.”

Takai and Duckworth are both Operation Iraqi Freedom veterans, and a shared priority is helping veterans. Another veteran, Tulsi Gabbard, holds the 2nd District seat.
