The Office of Hawaiian Affairs issued this statement this afternoon:

Office of Hawaiian Affairs Chair Colette Machado has been admitted to The Queen’s Medical Center and is undergoing medical care. Machado’s condition is described as stable. She was admitted Friday night.

Machado’s family is asking for privacy at this time.

Machado has spent much of the week at the Hawaii Legislature, where she has spoken out against same-sex marriage.

Earlier this week OHA issued a press release stating that OHA has not taken a position on same-sex marriage and is not funding any campaign. Any OHA official who has taken a position, OHA said, “has done so in his or her personal capacity independently of OHA.”
