From The Maui News:
Police closed D.T. Fleming Beach Park in Kapalua on Tuesday, after a snorkeler located what may be old ordnance there, said Maui County spokesman Rod Antone.
The male tourist was snorkeling about 20 yards offshore around 12:30 p.m. when he discovered an 8-inch-long canister partially buried in water 8 feet deep, he said. The man took the canister to the county lifeguard stand and left it there with ocean safety officers who called police.
Police responded and evacuated the park by 1:10 p.m., he said. Police contacted the Army Explosive Ordnance Disposal team from Oahu. Read more.
