A group of students are staging a march from the University of Hawaii Manoa campus to the state Capitol today to rally lawmakers and the governor for more funding for the school.

The group, the Student Network for Action and Progress, is hoping to bring attention to the loss of funding to UH Manoa and how the cuts are affecting students, faculty and the state at large.

“By pricing the local population out of education, the Legislature and the Governor’s office have reduced the impact that the people of Hawaii can have on their future and the future of the state,” a press release says.

The march starts at 1 p.m. today at Bachman Hall, after which students will continue down University Avenue,  Ewa-bound on King Street, through Thomas Square Park and then along Beretania Street until they reach the Capitol Rotunda.
