Gov. Neil Abercrombie is releasing $83.9 million for capital improvement projects at University of Hawaii campuses throughout the state.

Most of the funds — $50 million — will go toward projects on the university’s growing renewal and deferred maintenance list, including those at the Manoa, Hilo, West Oahu and community college campuses. Another $28 million is being allocated to health and safety projects at the same campuses.

Meanwhile, another $5.9 million is going toward the design and construction of projects at UH West Oahu and the university’s new Palamanui Campus on the western side of the Big Island.
