Redico, a Michigan-based real estate and development firm, said in a statement Tuesday that the renovation will help the property ”fit in with the dynamic urban development happening in Kakaako.”
Construction in the urban neighborhood is booming as developers race to build new condos, at times sparking controversy about the approval process.
The 677 Ala Moana Building was originally constructed in 1971. The land underneath is owned by Kamehameha Schools.
The Hawaii-based firm Standard Commercial LLC is managing the leasing of the mixed-use building, which is scheduled to be completed in 2015.
Here’s how the company describes the renovation:
Plans for the 12-story, 272,191-square-foot mixed-use building include: an eight-floor corner glass façade, new light-filled main floor lobby, reconfiguring the main entrances to the Ewa and Diamond Head sides of the building (current entrance is in the center of building on the Ala Moana street side), extensive upgrades to other common areas, seating for the interior courtyard, overall aesthetics and appeal of the property and creating a pedestrian-friendly area.
