The U.S. House of Representatives is pau for the holidays, but Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid has a full slate of business for his chamber.

According to POLITICO, it could be another acrimonious week in an era of changed filibuster rules. Reid has laid out “an ambitious schedule” of high-profile nominations in addition to passing the bipartisan budget agreement and a defense authorization that passed the House last week.

“Reid said he’s willing to hold the Senate in session until Christmas Eve to confirm nominees like Janet Yellen to chair the Federal Reserve,” said POLITICO.

(Of note: U.S. Sen. Brian Schatz had this tweet Sunday: “I am still astonished that the House went home for Christmas without extending unemployment benefits.”)

The Senate today confirmed former Pentagon attorney Jeh Johnson to lead the Department of Homeland Security.
