A Honolulu police officer shot a 17-year-old runaway in the wrist this morning in what many feared was a school shooting at Roosevelt High School.

Preliminary reports indicate the boy pulled a kitchen knife when approached by officers, who went to the school to take him into custody.

The boy was taken to Queen’s Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries and is being held on attempted murder charges.

The Honolulu Star Advertiser reports the officers involved in the incident received minor injuries, including the officer who fired the shots. According to KITV, that officer suffered a minor laceration to the torso.
