John Temple, Honolulu Civil Beat’s founding editor, has joined First Look Media as president of audience and products.

The new gig reunites Temple with Civil Beat publisher and First Look Media founder Pierre Omidyar.

“As First Look continues to evolve and grow, John will bring a unique perspective that will enable further experimentation and exploration of product development and editorial direction to best connect with our audiences,” Omidyar said in a press release.

“I’m honored to join the talented team at First Look and help fulfill its important mission,” Temple said. “It’s a dream come true to be part of building a new media company committed to service and experimentation.”

Temple has spent the last year at Stanford University as a senior fellow in the John S. Knight Journalism Fellowships program.

Prior to that, he served as managing editor at the Washington Post. He is the former editor, president and publisher of the now-defunct Rocky Mountain News.

Temple will be based in San Francisco.
