Academy Award-winning director Oliver Stone plans to make a film about Edward Snowden, the former National Security Agency analyst who exposed the NSA’s secret work.
According to The Guardian, the film will be an adaptation of “The Snowden Files,” an account of the NSA scandal written by The Guardian journalist Luke Harding.
“This is one of the greatest stories of our time,” Stone, 67, said. “A real challenge. I’m glad to have The Guardian working with us.”

Stone is the director of “Platoon,” “JFK,” “Nixon” and “W.”
“The story of Edward Snowden is truly extraordinary, and the unprecedented revelations he brought to light have forever transformed our understanding of — and relationship with — government and technology,” said Alan Rusbridger, The Guardian’s editor-in-chief. “We’re delighted to be working with Oliver Stone and Moritz Borman on the film.”
Snowden worked for the NSA on Oahu before sharing classified information with reporter Glenn Greenwald and others in 2013.
Greenwald is now working with First Look Media, a new venture from billionaire Pierre Omidyar, publisher of Honolulu Civil Beat.
In related news, a new poll says a majority of Americans believe Snowden did the right thing in revealing the extent of NSA surveillance programs
