State Sen. David Ige, who is challenging Neil Abercrombie in the Democratic primary for governor, unveiled a 5,100-word “action plan” today outlining what should be done if he is elected chief executive.

Called “Engineering Hawaii’s Future,” the plan identifies many of the same issues in Abercrombie’s own New Day Plan for Hawaii, which he introduced four years ago when he first ran for governor.

The issues include the state budget, the economy, tourism, technology, education, health care, seniors, the environment, Hawaiians, homelessness, agriculture and energy.

“State government needs to work more like a business by consistently delivering results on time and within budget,” Ige said in a statement today. “As an electrical engineer in private business, I manage project teams that must deliver results that meet customer requirements.”

Ige adds, “If we don’t deliver results, we don’t get paid and our clients are free to choose someone else.”

Ige’s plan is expected to be posted on his campaign website shortly.
