David Ige was outspent 10-to-1 by Neil Abercrombie, yet defeated the governor in the Aug. 9 primary by a 2-to-1 margin.
The Democratic nominee now faces a Republican and two independents in the Nov. 4 election, and he’s looking for cash.
Ige and Lt. Gov. Shan Tsutsui held a joint fundraiser Monday night at the Waialae Country Club asking $1,000 to $2,500 per contribution.
Ige also plans a fundraiser Sept. 3 at 3660 On the Rise, where he is asking just $36 a head — perhaps a play on Waialae Avenue restaurant’s name.
Meantime, Republican Duke Aiona held a fundraiser of his own Aug. 22 at the Hawaii Prince Hotel, asking $250.
GOP lieutenant governor candidate Elwin Ahu held a fundraiser Aug. 1 in Kaneohe where the asking price ranged from $250 all the way up to the maximum $6,000.
Hawaii Independent Party candidate Mufi Hannemann held a fundraiser Aug. 18 at Fresh Cafe downtown, asking $100.
And Libertarian Jeff Davis has held no fundraisers and has raised a mere $1,300 during the election cycle.
Another round of expenditure reports to the state Campaign Spending Commission are due Friday, and Civil Beat will take a look at the latest cash hauls.
