Yep, the lava flow that is now upon the town of Pahoa in the Puna District of Hawaii County isn’t just impacting humans.
“As lava runs closer to a rural area on Hawaii, Red Cross and other groups prepare for evacuations of families and pets,” the article explains.
Area residents have been urged to evacuate, and the Red Cross recently opened an emergency shelter at the Sure Foundation Church in Keaau.
“No word on whether the Red Cross will accept cats,” the article says. “Families with cats should find assistance by contacting Red Cross Hawaii, the Hawaii Island Humane Society or PAWS of Hawaii.“
The article has already picked up a few concerned comments:

- I live in the area. People have been moving their valuables and animals out for awhile now. Its a pretty scary thing.

- It gave me the chills. I am a lover of animals and I think that is the best solution to evacuate the cats imediatley or any other animals for that matter. The Humane Sociey should be able to help.
Hmmm. We could be looking at a CAT-astrophy. The Purrfect Storm. A real Meow Mix.
