Now that the Hawaii state Senate has reorganized, with Donna Mercado Kim remaining president and key leadership posts announced, full committee assignments have been fleshed out.

Sam Slom, the only Republican in the 25-member chamber, will continue to serve on all 16 committees in his capacity as minority leader.

Last week, the Hawaii House of Representatives chose to keep Joe Souki as speaker for another term. The announcement of committee assignments in the House could come as early as this week. (Keep an eye on who gets the House Agriculture committee — Clift Tsuji? Richard Onishi? —  as GMOs are bound to be an issue of interest next year. The new Senate Ag chair, Russell Ruderman, opposes GMOs.)

New to the Senate are Breene Harimoto and Gil Riviere, while Lorraine Inouye is back again after a spell away.
